Flexroute® Safety, Installation & Use Information
Flexroute® is a general-purpose TPV cable clamp used with a cable tie as a supplemental routing accessory for fully insulated wire and cable, hose and tubing. This document provides important information for product selection, installation and use. Follow all applicable equipment-manufacturer requirements, codes and regulations for the underlying system. Read and retain this information before selecting or installing Flexroute®.
1. Intended Use
Flexroute® is a cable-tie enhancement and cable-management accessory designed to create a cushioned interface between a cable tie and fully insulated wire or cable, hose or tubing. It is intended for locations where use of a cable tie by itself would otherwise be appropriate.
Flexroute® installs around lines that are already routed and connected without disconnecting the line or disassembling the system.
Flexroute® is only a supplemental routing accessory. It is not a stand-alone support or restraint and is not intended to replace required system hardware, provide structural support, or repair or reinforce damaged components.
2. Installation and Cable Tie Selection
Position Flexroute® around the routed line, pass a compatible cable tie through the clamp channel and around the mounting surface, and secure the tie in accordance with the cable-tie manufacturer’s instructions.
Use a cable tie appropriate for the application and installation conditions.
Follow the cable-tie manufacturer’s installation instructions. Do not use a tie that is damaged, degraded, incompatible with the environment or unable to remain secured.
Any specification or rating associated with a cable tie applies to the tie only and does not establish a corresponding rating for the Flexroute® clamp or complete installation.
After installation, confirm that the cable-tie locking head is fully engaged, the tie remains secure, the routed line is properly positioned without visible pinching or damage, and all required supports, restraints, clearances, heat shielding and retention hardware remain in place. If the tie loosens, does not remain secured or damages the routed line, do not use the installation.
3. Important Use Limitations
Not Load Bearing
Flexroute® is not intended for lifting, suspension, structural support, cargo restraint or any weight-bearing use.
A cable tie’s tensile-strength rating is not a working-load or load-bearing rating for Flexroute® or the complete installation.
Safety Critical Systems
Flexroute® may be used around a serviceable line in a safety-critical system only as a supplemental routing accessory.
Do not use Flexroute® as, or in place of, any equipment-manufacturer-required support, restraint, retention device, fitting, routing, clearance, heat shield or safety barrier.
The installation must remain safe if the Flexroute® clamp or cable tie fails. If failure of the clamp or tie could permit a routed line to contact a hazardous surface or moving equipment, defeat a required clearance or restraint, release a line, or otherwise create personal injury or property damage, do not use Flexroute® in that configuration.
Customer or real-world installation photographs illustrate possible routing locations only. They do not certify or establish the safety of a particular installation.
Electrical Applications
Use Flexroute® only with fully insulated electrical wire or cable.
Do not install Flexroute® directly on bare or exposed conductors, and do not use it to repair, reinforce or compensate for damaged electrical insulation.
Flexroute® is not electrical insulation or electrical protective equipment.
Serviceable Lines Only
Use Flexroute® only with wire, cable, hose and tubing that is in serviceable condition for the intended application.
Do not use Flexroute® to repair, reinforce or compensate for damaged or otherwise unserviceable lines.
4. Ratings, Materials and Environmental Conditions
Do not infer a load, temperature, chemical-compatibility, environmental-exposure, vibration, shock, abrasion or other performance rating unless Hawken Components expressly provides that rating for Flexroute®.
Published data or specifications for a material or cable tie apply only to the identified material or component under the stated conditions. They do not establish a corresponding rating or safe operating limit for the Flexroute® clamp or complete installation.
Do not rely on Flexroute® to satisfy a requirement for a load-rated, temperature-rated, electrically rated or otherwise rated component. Maintain all equipment-manufacturer-required clearances, heat shielding, insulation and other protective measures.
Use of Flexroute® around a line carrying a particular fluid does not mean the clamp is rated for direct, continuous or incidental exposure to that fluid.
5. Inspection and Replacement
Visually inspect the Flexroute® clamp, cable tie, mounting surface and routed line before installation, periodically during use, and after maintenance or another event that could affect the installation.
Do not use any component showing visible damage, deterioration, incomplete tie engagement, loosening, movement or loss of secure retention. Replace any such component before use.
Inspection and replacement frequency depend on the application and service conditions. Follow applicable equipment- and cable-tie-manufacturer requirements.
6. Sizing
Flexroute® is available in multiple sizes.
Select a size that fits the outside diameter, shape and construction of the routed line without forcing, pinching, deforming or damaging the line, clamp or cable tie.
7. Material and Component Information
Flexroute® is manufactured from flexible TPV. Material or component data do not establish finished-product performance unless Hawken Components expressly states otherwise.
